Our Story

In the early 1970's James Beemer was a teacher for the Chillicothe School district.  It was during his tenure that he met his wife Marcia.  In 1975 James purchased the Brown’s Clothing Store on the east side of the square in downtown Chillicothe and started Beemer’s Men’s Apparel.  Marcia had a dress shop in the nearby town of Cameron, MO and decided to open a women’s side to Beemer’s (selling various types of dresses, including formals and wedding dresses).  The women’s section, known as Beemer's for Her, was located in the adjoining building south of Beemer's Men's Apparel.

After 26 years in business, Beemer's for Her closed its doors in 2006.  That section of the building was then walled off from Beemer’s Men's Apparel to allow for an expansion of the pharmacy located next door.  Marcia tried to get James to retire in 2010, but he told her, “Chillicothe needs this.”  So the store remained open and continued to serve the community.

For over 49 years Beemer's has helped generations of men who have walked through the door. We've helped boys pick out clothes for a special occasion and as they grew older to rent tuxedos for their high school prom.  Then as the boys turned into men we helped them select the perfect wedding tuxedo for their special day. Then we helped those men’s sons come in and do the same.

Beemer's has helped generations of men dress for special occasions.
